XeTeX

Lately I have been trying XeTeX and it's pretty good! It is compatible with unicode by default and is capable of working with the fonts installed on your system. To use it, just add:

\usepackage{fontspec}
\usepackage{xltxtra}
\setmainfont[Mapping=tex-text]{Liberation Sans}

In your tex file. You can then compile by using xelatex. It is pretty awesome to be able to access all the fonts from latex.

GTD Rocks

Since the beginning of this year, I have been using the GTD method to organize and track the different things I have to do. I must admit that it seriously rocks! I strongly encourage everybody to try it and see what it gives...

Since I am sometimes working on application security and isolation with my fellow teammates, we were wondering if the Eclipse's plugin system had some kind of security...

The answer seems to be no. If you want to have some fun you can try this plugin:

This afternoon, someone from my lab showed me a very useful and amusing website, call Detexify. In this website, you can draw a symbol in a window, and some algorithm search for the closest LaTeX code that represent this symbol :D

New version of Bibextract

A new version of bibextract (a bibtex extractor from computer science article pdf files) is available at the address: http://www.lirmm.fr/~falleri/tools/bibextract.zip

You can run it with: java -jar bibextract.jar

You need to be under Linux with pdftotext installed.

Now it haves a SWT gui. Screenshot:

Hi!

After a lot of work, my PhD has been sent for review. Here is a little plot to remember this hard task:

Bibextract

I managed to code one of the program every computer science researcher should want.

If, like me, you always keep a bunch of PDF files containing some interesting related works; you should have probably at some point felt the need to retrieve the Bibtex associated to those PDF in order to cite them in your very own work.

But the Bibtex is not in the PDF, so you spend time to search for the article on DBLP or Scholar to get the bibtex... Annoying :(

So I decided to solve this issue by developing Bibextract. The goal of Bibextract is simple. It takes a pdf file as input and returns the Bibtex code corresponding to the article contained in the PDF file. Nice, isn't it?

The way it works is simple: first it converts the PDF to raw text. Then it search in the 15 first lines the line that is most likely to be the title, then it queries DBLP for the extracted title, and returns it...
